Finding Only You

The sun breaks the frozen horizon.
Freeing the blades of crystallized grass — melting the frost-laden parts of me.

What freedom comes with the morning.
The daily mercy
The fought for break of a long-suffering climb when battle weary prayers and battered petitions seemingly fall upon deaf ears.

Looking back, there’s beauty in the battle. A sweet presence manifesting each crack of the broken.

And it’s in this moment of hindsight I see You.
Battered, bruised, broken.
Your body reflecting my heart.
As I trace Your scars I find myself.
As I search Your cry, I see who I really am.

So broken without a way to whole.
So unworthy of Your call to me — “Beloved”
Lost and wayward, never justified for a love so ravenous.

But You saw beyond myself. You saw what I could never glimpse because its dripping with the magnificence of Your glory.

You see what nobody is worthy enough to behold. A glorified and justified and jealously loved human. Made in Your triune image — created with the breath of the Living God at time’s beginning.

Like the golden hues of autumn sun magnifying the crimson maple surrendering to its’ time — so is Your glory and eternal Life always magnifying the blood bought identity and hope we seek and find in You.

Oh, how rich is this moment. Looking back to see the hard and painful journey, but finding only You.

Your hand in all of it. Purposing every pain. Redeeming every chapter of the story.

Your thread — both crimson and golden — weaving in and out of broken space, binding them together in a miraculous display of Your absolute power and glorious love.

And I cry.
Not tears of pain or sorrow.
Tears of thankfulness.
Because You see and know and still choose and love.

Amen.
